Drug laws and federal sentencing

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that US federal minimum sentencing is screwed up? In a town near mine the following two cases were mentioned in the paper: A man was arrested trying to sell 2 oxycontin pills ($90 street value) to undercover police. A couple who owns a landscaping business was caught cultivating 125+ mature marijuana plants (estimated $250,000 street value), plus they were in possession of 14 firearms (some of which did not have required registration). One case resulted in 20 years in federal prison. The other case resulting in probation. Because I mentioned that I think federal sentencing is skewed, I'm guessing you can guess which got what sentencing... The guy with the 2 oxycontins landed a 20 year prison term. Apparently the US government flags certain drugs with mandatory sentencing, no matter the amount. So this poor slob gets 20 years for $90 worth of pills. The people with the quarter of a million dollars in weed get probation. Does anyone else think this is completely outrageous?
