Don't give me lip about reading the whole thread before posting

The notify on feature (which those of you using it already know this) does not show the whole thread. It only shows the original post, not the replies that go with it. When one clicks to respond, he/she is then redirected to the reply box automatically. Hope this clears some things up for some people around here.

I know, but it is nice not to have to sort through so many discussions. It is a bad thing only that you don't know what anyone has responded with already. I do read through the responses when I get to the page.

I usually do, too, after I make my own post. Yeah, sometimes it would be convenient to be able to review everything first, but for the most part, when my friends reply to me (thank you, Rob) I appreciate the totally honest and uninfluenced responses.

Well - if anyone wants to give an INTELLIGENT response, you MUST read the whole thing. Read it twice or thrice if necessary. It also helps to read the replies. On some of my replies, I do say "Like the guy at reply number said ..."

Yeah - that's true also. I have been known at times to just reply after reading the starting discussion, although it's not that often. Anyway, you do make a valid point.

There's more than one way to make an intelligent response, lol. :) +

Well, I must agree to disagree on this one. Replying without influence from other posters defines a genuine response. One can always go through later when time allows and make further comments and observations.

I have a large circle of friends who are on 'notify' and as soon as they have done a discussion it appears in my mail box and as soon as I hit the reply, as you rightly said, you do not get to see previous responses, so you go in 'blind' as it were. I can't see why anyone should have a problem with this surely? You have taken the time to respond and I, myself appreciate my friends responding. I am sorry I can't reply to every discussion because some discussions my friends write I know nothing about, so why waffle? There's always someone out there disgruntled, how does it go, you can please some people some of the time, but not all the time LOL!

That's cool, Wolfie. I don't answer every single one either. If I have nothing to offer to the conversation...well, sometimes I pop in and say "I don't have a clue, but I'm here to support the thread." or I'll read the replies and sometimes I find I do in fact have a tiny bit to offer. But alas, that is not always the case. Thanks for taking time to pop in. I'm having sloppy joe. Want one? lol

i do this also, I hardly ever read the whole thread of responses before i post my 2 cents. So I know exactly what you are talking about. I really don't care if people get upset with me, they asked for everyones opinion and i am just giving mine also.

Amen to that, Missy. The notify on feature is so helpful in tending to business here, is it not? Could you imagine having to go through every profile on your list every day to see if your buddies have posted anything new??? (Gasp!) I'd never get anything else done! lol

Do people actually expect others to read the whole thread? :o Ok, I read the whole of the initial post but I don't really get time to read the entire thread. I mean it's difficult enough with the layout of it. I wish it was a proper forum set up with little drop down boxes for individual discussions within the thread or something. It would be so much handier.

You're absolutely right, B.B. It would be nice to be able to return to your own comment in another post and continue a conversation, wouldn't it. Sometimes I don't bother when I know my response is a dozen or more pages back in the replies field. It's difficult to have a proper discussion when one has to spend 20 minutes plus just looking for your own response to someone else's topic.

I know visitor, and it's even more frustrating when you go back to a thread, hunt for your reply, find it, and nobody has bothered acknowledging it. :(

I'm glad you brought that up. I have been trying to think of a way to word what you have said above all day. You put it very well. Thank you.
