Do you have any books by her? Do you like them? For some reason people don't think her books are helpful to newbies. I only have her Halloween book and I like it a lot. http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtml.This website also talks about other authors to watch out for, even worse than Silver Ravenwolf.I hope the link works.

I do not own any of her books but I have read many of them. I think she is a great author and does teach alot about the religion. However for newbies her books may be a little advanced and some people might have trouble reading and understanding them. Although, if you are not new to the craft i suggest her books as excelent refrence guides to Wicca/Pagan Religion.

At least she isn't negative or giving out a lot of bad information. I think she's cool. I think she also tries to make learning fun.

I had a couple of her books that I'd bought yrs ago but I really dont care for her stuff...I think the only book by her that I cared for at all was her Angels: Companions in Magick and even that I've not really touched in some yrs now....I think her practices are a little shady and she comes across to me like she's almost trying to recruit teens which is an absolute disgrace IMO..recruiting is just wrong as far as I'm concerned and targeting angsty teens is just pathetic..

Sometimes she sounds snooty or something. I'll probably just stick with her Halloween book since she can't say too many offensive things about that. I think she keeps putting out too many books and not caring what young minds might think.

SRW is what I call a 'starter author', meaning that many people delving for the first time into Wicca and/or witchcraft tend to pick up her books. I personally did so in my 'youth' (ie the first couple of years that I practised wicca), but as I grew into my Faith I came to believe that most of the Wiccan concepts in SRW's works are watered down. Wicca is such a diverse Faith, you might want to look into books by Raymond Buckland, the Farrars, Starhawk, etc to expand your reading about Wicca and paganism in general.

Thanks, I think Ray Buckland has a blue book that I wouldn't mind reading. I am also interested in Starhawk,I've only known of her in the past few weeks. The Farrars I will have to research on since I'm not sure who they are. Thanks for your reply!

I own several of Silver's books and I really enjoy them. Many people don't like her I think because they feel she's being preachy and really turning people against christanity. They seem to think her ideas are a bit off and dismiss all of her books because of that reason. I however enjoy her books regardless of whether or not a few things are off.

A fantastic author for "newbies" is Scott Cunningham. If you are looking for more information on wicca and witchcraft in todays world in general, you definatly NEED to read; The Truth About Witchcraft Today. very straight forward and very helpful to me when i first got curious. another great beginner book, also by Cunningham is: Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner. hope these suggestions are helpful! Blessed Be!

Well.. personally, I believe her books are something to START with. Even her thicker ones, like with all books you're not supposed to take everything you read for granted. I cross-reference everything..and tend to have a good sense for truth. I get the sense she's a mixture of things, which seems to put off alot of people. She's not careful about how she terms most things..which also puts off people. Her books in general are pretty good, there's no harm really in them. She strikes me as a normal person..no hidden motives, just sitting down to write what she believes is true. No different from anyone else. She DOES focus alot on her own beliefs, but that altogether's not a bad thing, thousands of other authors write similarly, it makes it more personable. So..all I just wrote there gives alot of reasons why people might not like her. I personally don't like nor dislike her..I find her books helpful and would recommend them to a newbie with the warning "Never take anything you're told for granted." Just like I would with the thousands of other authors I've read and would reccomend :) I own about..four of her books I think.

I have "To Ride A Silver Broomstick" and I recommend it to friends who say they are interested in Witchcraft. I think it is a great beginners book as it touches lightly on all of the principles, well not all, but it gives a really good idea of what we're all about. I don't agree with every detail in the book, but I adore it and I refer to it often when looking for information.

in my opinion, she dumbs down quite a lot. I have no problem with explaining things simply, but this is ridiculous. she also presents events which never happened as historical fact, and claims that the Witch trials was real Witches, in the modern sense, being killed by evil mean nasty Christians for worshipping the Goddess. which common sense will tell you is not what happened. and yet because people read it in a book they beleive it wholeheartedly
