My 1999 ford Ranger seems to be reving around 5,000 rpm's before it accelarates on the highway...it is a 5 speed manual transmission...89,000 miles...it get's into gear fine so I don't believe that it's the clutch...does this seem like an engine problem that can be fixed...maybe something as simple as replacing the EGR valve??

Without being there to see and hear what's going on, it's very difficult to answer your question. The impression is that your problem lies in the transmission of power to the wheels. Good luck in finding out.
