Which is the first day of the week.... SUNDAY OR MONDAY?

I have read so much and read so many articles about the first day of the week. At that point of time though it convinces me as per what the article says i again do not have a clear knowledge about what is the actual first day of the week. Those who know please tell me about it.

I exactly dn't know about religious text but I had heard that God started creating the universe and that was Monday and after working hard for 6 days he wished to have a rest and that is Sunday thus Monday is the first day.

The majority says so.Does it differ with the religion or only with the calender
