The corporate CEOs create a measurable product. One can determine the success of a CEO by the bottom line, the profit of the company. It is also easy to measure the results. Unfortunately, one can not easily measure the success of the professors results. How the students succeed is hard to measure, not to mention how does one tie it back to one particular professor. No, corporate CEOs do not contribute more than academics or researchers/scientists, but there isn't a practical method to measure their success.
