I'm going in tomorrow to have the tissue removed by an oral surgeon. He says it will take a couple of visits and be very yucky and painful. The biopsy alone was triple yuck! Never realized how much I use my tongue until it got sliced on. Ouch! Talking and eating hurt. He's going to give me Vicodin this time. Obviously I have to stop smoking. Gotta keep those cells from mutating! I started taking Bupropian/Wellbutrin last week. I'm going to come out of my surgery a non-smoker. Smoking cessation Such a challenge. I do find listing the benefits helps me in my quest. Let's start a list for all us brave Non-Smoking Smokers. Benefits from Smoking Cessation #1 I won't be so mad and myself all the time.

The biggest benefit is that you will be healthier and hopefully will not have to deal with developing oral cancer or any other smoking-related cancer. You have the right attitude, and I'm sure that you've had quite a scare now. These should be good motivators. Quitting smoking is NOT easy, I know because I am finally an ex-smoker. PLEASE do it now, before it is too late. This dysplasia is a warning to you of things to come if you don't do this NOW. If you like online support, I highly recommend www.quitnet.com That site helped me a lot- it's a forum for quitting smoking, with members in the pre-contemplation stage all the way up to multiple years smoke-free. Lots of great people and helpful information. You might also check out www.stopsmokingonline.com, which is a free e-book that you can download. Again, it's a great resource. Good luck with your surgery, and of course good luck with staying smoke-free!
