Or are you going to file the last minute? Is there any other benefits besides maybe a faster refund to filing earlier?

I try to file as soon as I possibly can. Usually sometime in the first two weeks of February is customary for me to file our taxes. We run two separate businesses, so it is a bit difficult sometimes, even though I try to keep eveything together throughout the year. There really is no benefit to filing early, other than, like you said, getting your refund earlier if you are getting one. The other thing would be that it's done and you don't have to worry about it anymore. BTW, I like your name.

I already filed, because I have a refund this year. I only wait until the 15th of april when I have to pay. I also only fill out half of the form and let the IRS fill out the rest so I can save the money for the payment. It buys a little time when you owe them money.

I am fully prepared to file my taxes as soon as I possibly can quite honestly. Both me & my other half plan on doing so. I'd like to receive my refund as well as soon as possible because I have plans as to what to do with it. I really believe that filing earlier will not only get me my refund quicker, but it will also get the task of filling out the submissions and all the forms out of my hair quicker. I personally don't like putting things on the backburner and would much rather have this type of important thing taken care of as soon as possible. It's one less thing that I would have to worry about at the end of the day. And not having to worry about one more thing in my life could really do me some good, I am sure for others they feel the same way I do in some ways. I remember seeing somewhere that above the given fact that you will get your refund back quicker by doing your taxes earlier, you also allow the government some more time to go over your submission. This may enable you to more of a refund if they audit your submission and find you forgot to enter something in that would be beneficial to you. At the same time, this could work against you too if the numbers you forgot actually result in you having to pay a little more. If you are using an accountant to file your taxes you may want to go ahead and get them to help you do that early. After a certain time they will become extremely busy and may not be able to give you the attention you need. If you have questions or concerns as a taxpayer, it would be an added benefit to go ahead and make an early appointment as opposed to trying to file your taxes a month before they're due. As well, by filing early, you also have the added benefit of being able to do some research into any tax saving tips and loopholes that you may be able to take advantage of. If you decide to file closer to the deadline, you won't have as much time to look for these loopholes and could end up losing out on hundreds of dollars that you could get back. You would not be able to optimize your tax breaks and end up losing out on money the government would end up taking away from you. In conclusion, I believe it is smarter to file your taxes earlier as you may be able to take advantage of tax breaks that you can find through some simple research. As well, on top of getting your refund earlier you also have the advantage of asking an accountant (if you employ one to do your taxes) any questions you may have regarding your taxes. Leaving your return until closer to the time that you have to file it will not permit you to have this advantage because those accountants will be busier than usual. I know that I do my taxes each year a little bit earlier so that it's one less thing that I have to worry about. And it's another thing that is out of my hair.. I know I get my other half & me to file our taxes early & it seems to always benefit us in the end each year! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I file early if I know I've got a refund coming. I started my taxes today. But if I owe, I'll prepare the taxes early but not actally file until April. I'm going to hang onto my money as long as I can!

I started today but I need to wait for one more form to come before I can finish. As soon as that comes I will file because I have a refund coming. I like to file as soon as I can. Not only to get my money back but also to get it done with. I don't like to put things like that off until the last minute because it makes me worry too much.

I always file usually the first or second week of February. (I am actually doing them tomorrow.) I hate waiting to that last minute-and I have dependents anyway so I get money back every year...so why wait on that?

I have filed early this year, usually I don't get the W2 in time but this year it was there before the end of the Month. I filed rapid so we will see if there are advantages to this.

Tax time here doesn't start until July 1st and even then you have months and months to do it. The tax department will only come after you if you owe them money ... if they owe you then you won't hear a peep from them!
