Let me preface my comment by saying that I am 6 classes short of a degree with emphasis on print journalism.....that being said, I watch the local news at least once per day, the fox news channel and cnn periodically throughout the day at least once each and read the local (town) newspaper weekly and the largest daily paper within 50 miles each day. There are many stories that are greatly depressing to me. I don't LIKE to read about murders or mass killings/bombings, but they are part of our life. Being informed can allow us to make decisions when it comes to the political future of our country and our own families.

I agree we all need to be as informed as possible. And I agree that all of these things are part of our life.I watch Fox news every chance I get and I also watch BBC news and others to try and get opinions from more than one source. The reason I started this discussion is when Im at work and ask someone if they have watched the news that day they almost always say "I Dont watch the news its too depressing"or"I dont watch the news its just propaganda"

That is a sentiment shared by many people in today's world. I find fault in that logic as I just can't imagine not knowing what is going on in the world and in my area. I try to keep informed, even if it is not something that I agree with....knowlege is power.
