karma - Does it exists?

I always ask myself the question if a thing called karma exists. According to Hindu belief one is born rich or poor according to the karma he or she did in the previous birth. Again he or she will take a next birth according to his karma that is the good or bad things he or she is doing now. If such a thing happens why people are not afraid of doing bad things. I can see all the good people suffering and the bad people enjoying all the pleasures. If they are going to be paid for their good or bad deeds only in the next birth , then what do they see in their currnent living or birth.
