how do you make a soft boiled egg?

how do you make a nice soft boiled egg? ive tried all sorts of methods and i never get it quite right, can you tell me your methods please? i either get hard boiled and dry inside or hard boiled with a little runny inside or soft boiled but the white part isnt cooked. what is the best way do yo think it should be done?

Put the egg before the water boils. When it gets to the boiling point count for 7 minutes and take the egg out. I love soft boiled eggs too.

7 minutes? surely that would make a hard boiled egg? i was always told 3 minutes for an egg but what do i know i cant get it right yet lol.

I think you put the egg in the water and turn up the heat to get the water boiling but as soon as the water starts boiling turn it off and leave the egg in the water for just a little bit longer like maybe 1-2 minutes. I *think* that's pretty much how you do it.

put the egg in cold water or warm it up first?
