Who are your favourite fantasy authors?I'm partial to George R. R. Martin these days. His 'Song of Ice and Fire' series is a real page-turner!And of course there is J. R. R. Tolkien. About once every couple of years I reread LOTR and The Hobbit. But I've never managed to work my way through his other stuff.

my all time favorite is C.S. Lewis. read all Chronicles of Narnia when i was in high school. Today, i like Harry Potter so i guess i like J.R Rowling. Im sure Tolkien is a great author too but i havent read Lord of the Rings, ive only seen the movies. i tried reading the book but i was too long i didnt get past page 2. ΓΌ

heh heh. Yeah, Tolkien tends to get long-winded! The books are well-written, but there's not a lot of action til the hobbits get to Bree (chapter 4, I think).
I like C.S. Lewis too. I read all the Narnia books when I was young. I've tried reading some of his non-fiction about Christianity, but its hard reading!
I'm also a Rowling fan. Can't wait for the last book (or the fifth movie!)

I have never read him, but most of my friends have and recommend him as well. I have just never gotten around to it.

I think your husband will be happy to learn that HBO is planning a television series based on Martin's series!
I've only read Atwood when I was required to at school :D

Thanks for the post. I haven't read Brooks or Jordan either. Well, I did read Jordan's first Wheel of Time book, but didn't continue the series. Not because I didn't like it -- it was well written. But someone I knew was constantly telling me how good his series was to the point of being annoying. I probably should give it another chance.

I'm a big J. R. R. Tolkien fan, I've read Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit more times than I can remember. I tried to teach myself Elvish as well, which actually went quite well. I also liked C. S. Lewis, if he counts. I always wanted to go to Narnia when I was younger.

I read the "Rings" trilogy, and I enjoyed them but Tolkien is not my favorite fantasy author. I have never read "The Hobbit" but I am sure I will some day. I am very partial to Diana Wynn Jones ever since I read "The Ogre Downstairs" and then "Charmed Life" and "The Lives of Christopher Chant" which are two of her very best Chrestomanci novels. They're targetted to teens, or younger kids I guess, but I still appreciate and enjoy them.

My favourite fantasy author is, without one doubt, J.R.R. Tolkien. I just love his work. I like a lot his works.
Don't know this George R.R. Martin and I will look for it, do you have any suggestions?

Yeah, you gotta love Tolkien. And to the continued annoyance of literary critics, LOTR always ranks as the #1 favourite book of all time in readers' polls.
Martin's epic, 'A Song of Ice and Fire' has had four books already released:
A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows
It was originally envisioned as a 6-part series, but that has already increased by at least one novel. Book 4 become so ponderously huge that Martin and his publisher decided to split it in two. We are currently awaiting the release of book 4 1/2 -- A Dance with Dragons.
The next books in the series are provisionally titled:
The Winds of Winter
A Dream of Spring
There are also two prequel novels set about 90 years before the events of the main series:
The Hedge Knight
The Sworn Sword
Just last month (Jan 17, 2007) it was announced that HBO had bought the rights to the entire series with the intention of turning it into a television series, covering one novel's worth of action per season.
