if smoking kills, why is my grandpa still alive at 87?

he started smoking as a teen-ager and now is still alive and kicking? This was asked by a young boy when I told him to quit smoking because it kills. How will you answer questions like this?

Sometimes some people are alot more fortunate for others! I am very glad that you still have your Grandfather after smoking for so soo long!

I think he was just lucky :)))). A lot of persons die from pulmonar cancer but let's not be so dramatic and just consult the doctor if we think something is not "working" and we'll get to you grandpa age. :D

Good question. My grandfather smoked for 50+ years but ended up getting cancer. Very few people are lucky enough to not be effect by smoking. But in general smoking kills millions. Give the option to the young boy that he's playing a guessing game with his life if he continues to smoke.
