Can anyone recommend a digital camera that you are happy with?

When I go to a store I see literally dozens of look-alike cameras. I am not really a camera bug, so I want one that pretty much takes great pictures with little adjustment on my part, one with a decent zoom, and one that is simple to transfer the pics to my computer. Also small enough to fit in my pocket with a nice sized screen on it. Probably under $300... If you don't have recommendations for a good one, please let me know if any of you have purchased a DUD that you would NOT recommend! Thanks a bunch!

You seem to know what you want in a camera. I have two cameras, a Canon Digital Rebel XT which is great but too big for you. The other camera is my carry around camera, it is a Canon A530. It is a fully automatic camera that lets you have some control when you want to. It is a 5 mega pix camera, which means that you can print 8x10 photos with some cropping. It also has a 4 power zoom lens. Most small cameras have a 3 power. It will fit nicelly into your pocket even if it is in a thin case. The price is $150 or less. Some other advantages are it use 2 AA batteries and an SD card. On my trip to Korea this is the camera I took with me. I think is is a great basic camera with the option for you to grow. Good luck and don't depend upon the sales people to find you the right camera.

I took your advice and bought the Canon A530. The batteries ran down quickly, but I bought some rechargeables and also a higher capacity SD card. I'm happy with the few trial photos I've taken so far and it's really easy to upload my pics to the computer. Unfortunately my printer does not have PictBridge capability, but I may upgrade that in the future to be able to use the print/share button. It's also so cool that you can attach a little audio clip to each of your pics so you remember where it was you took your pic if you were on a trip. The "kids & pets" mode for fast moving objects caught many strange expressions on my cats face and one pic came out with his tongue out licking his nose. That happened in a split second and I hardly noticed it til I saw the pic. So thanks for the great advice --there's plenty of things for me to discover on this camera and play with. I had no idea my old digital was as prehistoric as it was! (It was huge -one of the first ones out).

I researched the above mentioned Canon camera this afternoon and read many satisfied customer reviews. The only real complaint was the short battery life, but you can use rechargeables.
