laptop monitor trouble

I have a HP notebook model # N5150, and when I turn it on I am getting these thin white lines that run up and down the screen, then it starts to fade out to a white screen. The window does go back to almost normal and then fades out then I turn it off because I'm not sure if it is burning up or what it is doing. Do you have any idea what could be causing it? Thanks Bill
