A question about programming for babies

My son is fifteen months old, and he has become rather strange with his television preferences. He does not like to watch cartoons. I have tried to turn them on for him, but he gets impaitent and bored. He prefers to watch shows with actual people. I always thought that children love cartoons, so this is strange to me. My son's favorite show is "The Price is Right." I guess it's because the show is very colorful and lively. Whenever he hears the opening theme, he jumps up and starts dancing. He also likes watching old "Saved by the Bell" reruns. His favorite show used to be "Bonanza" but we don't get TvLand anymore with our new cable package. Is this strange for a child? Do your kids like programs with real people over cartoons?

In my opinion, a fifteen month old is waaaaaay too young for television of any sort. My children didn't watch any tv until they were about 5 and of Sesame Street age, and then it was only for very brief periods. Parking a baby in front of Saved By The Bell reruns just seems sad. How about picking up a book and reading to him, or playing with him, or doing anything else that will actually engage him? The years when they are young go by so quickly, turn the tv off and enjoy them!

I don't just "park him in front of the TV." I just leave the TV on to have some kind of noise in the house.

when my youngest son was around 15 months, he barely watched tv.....if i remember corectly, he liked playing with his toys. When he DID watch TV, it wasn't all cartoons....he'd pretty much watch what his older siblings watched...wchih was mostly the Disney channel. The only show that he would watch now (he's 2 years old) with real people is Crazy Town...it has real people and puppets. Otherwise, he'd watch Cars or Thomas the Train :) Most kids will watch anything with music....you can try that out for your son...maybe he kind of likes Saved by the Bell because of the music in the opening credits? and maybe the sound of the bell itself?

I agree with previous post - 15 months is toooo young to be watching TV and waaaay too young to be deciding what to watch. Sing to him, read to him, play games with him, do physical activities with him. DON'T set him in front of a TV.
