My mother told us that when she was small her mother used to take an onion, stud it with cloves and simmer it in milk for half an hour. She was then supposed to drink the milk. As she hated milk (especially boiled milk), she never inflicted us with this. As a matter of fact, if you added a bay leaf to the milk, this is exactly how you start a Bechamel sauce, so I don't suppose it tastes as bad as it sounds!

I haven't had it with sugar but I have had a onion pureed with garlic nd had to eat it for a cold and also red apple cider vinegar mixed with honey tastes better if it has set a few day though because then the honey helps eliminate some of the vinegar taste but mom and granny used to stuff us kids with all kinds of home remedies some that worked and some that didn't work so well. We would also have to drink homemade onion soup several times a day. Not like a onion to get your sinuses moving again.

I have not heard of this being good for colds. After seeing this post, I found an article on the web pertaining to what you had brought up. It is interesting information. Apparently it is good for other types of health conditions as well, like respiratory disease and more. Here is the link to the website about onion juice. http://www.indiangyan.com/books/healthbooks/food_that_heal/onion.shtml

Not for colds but I know for a fact it works for an earache. When my daughter was little she used to get a lot of earaches. I remembered my grandmother had always cut an onion in half and squeezed some of the white juice onto a teaspoon and poured it into the ear so I tried that and it worked.

Okay...that sounds just nasty! But, the couple of different recipes sound plausible! I like to eat onions in and on just about everything, so I don't guess it would be that bad...just sounds gross! LOL And I don't drink mild either!
