My fiancee and I are getting married in 3 months but we're not having the traditional dress/tux church wedding. We don't have the money at the moment to do that type of wedding. We may later on do that for now we are having the marriage license. After signing the marriage license I would like to do at least something- not just go to Applebees or Olive Garden. I was thinking of maybe getting a big cake from a bakery and having a small party. But still I'm stuck on ideas. I'd like to have a honeymoon but I'm not sure how to do that in our home, any ideas on what to do?

congratulations about your wedding!! When my parents got married they went to austria on their car...but since they didn't have money, instead of going to hotels and such, they went camping lol. Some would think that it's unappropriate for a wedding, but they think that's the opposite. It makes them remember it as something cute and makes them feel proud that they went to austria despite the lil money they had at that time. Thank god that nowadays we go to hotels though lol.

Thanks :) I've got to admit, that's not the most traditional type of wedding but if your parents were happy with it, good for them!

The first thing that you need to do is to figure out what is the most important part of the wedding/reception. Is it the church, the receptin hall, the food, the music....... Once you've decided that, that's where you would want to spend the most money. My husband and I bartered a lot of things for our wedding. Have a friend that's good with a camera take the pictures instead of paying a photographer - just know in advance what pictures you will want. Also, you could put the disposable ones on the tables to get the candid shots that photographers don't get. I made our favors, so it didn't cost much. We got a buffet from the caterer, as that was cheaper. We would have done that ourselves, but the hall wouldn't allow it - so check with the hall first. Go to http://thrifty.lifetips.com and check out the wedding section for more ideas. That used to be the site that I was in charge of, so most of those tips are mine. Got anything in particular? Become my friend and e-mail me the questions.

If you aren't overly religious then I suggest getting married at the court house. Then have a simple get together reception at your home. You could even make it a pot luck, or serve simple snack foods. Play some music and just celebrate with your friends and family. As for a honeymoon, find a little B&B and spend the weekend there. A wedding isn't about money it is about love.
