my neighbours sometimes drink from jam jars. when all their dishes are dirty and they are too lazy to wash them they will get out the jars. i find it a little strange but hey it works right.

I am surprised people still drink out of jam jars today, but when you think about it, they are only glass that has not been shaped to the conventional drining shape.
The only trouble with your neighbours getting out the jars when they are too lazy to wash up is that they then have the jars AND the pots to tackle when they finally run out of jars lol.

My mom always kept the jars that had tom and jerry and all the cartoon stuff on them, she still has them today. I used one the last time I was there lol...
My kids always use them when we are there.

weird? What is weird about being poor? Seriously, people really did have to drink out of jam jars if they could not afford crockery etc.
However, you are such a Lady I know you would never drink out of anything less than bone china, my dear.

Don't knock it, Christmas probably will come in June when some politically correct idiot realises they can push the price of holidays in decent weather up to more than double if it is also Christmas. Come to that, let's keep it quiet, or some idiot really will think hey! what a good idea we will have Christmas twice a year lol.

My mother did when she was growing up. My boyfriend keeps all his jars to drink from too and I can't stand it. I think they are really hard to drink from. I bought some plastic tumblers to keep at his house for me to drink from because I got so tired of the jars.

Yes, jars can be difficult to drink from, and it is very easy to spill drinks onto your clothing. They are very practical and cheap though, so I suppose when you do not have very much money they are very useful.

I do ... I do ... but then again companies here purposly make their jam jars out of glass with a design on the outside so that when you've finished eating the jam you can just give it a clean with water and voila ... a fresh new cup! You can even collect a series of patterns and characters. I guess I just assumed that all countries around the world did the same ... but now i've learnt something.

No, countries around the world don't do it, but perhaps they should, it is such a lovely idea, thank you for that :-)
