I have been collecting wild mushrooms for nearly twenty years. In England many people would not eat a wild mushroom , they would rather go and buy one in a supermarket instead. I love finding them - walking in the woods, or even finding them in local open spaces. How confident do you feel about collecting wild food?

I am not brave enough to pick up wild mushrooms! I heard too many stories about people picking and eating the wrong ones! How do know if you are picking a good one or a bad one? They all seem to look the same.

You learn by watching someone else first, and you need a book (or several) with photos - not illustrations - and descriptions. That is how I started, and I just collected a few types. Are you in the UK?

Well that is too far away for me to show you!! If you don't know them best to leave well alone. There are always a few maniacs in every area (like me) who would take people out on a guided foray.

No, I am in Florida. But when I lived in Pennsylvania there were a lot of wild mushrooms everywhere. My parents always told us not to touch them.

My father n law used to love collecting wild mushrooms. He was good at picking out the good ones from the bad. I wouldn't know a poisonous one from a good one so I couldn't do it. My husband and I buy ours from the store and we both love mushrooms but I wouldn't mind trying a wild one as long as it wasn't poisonous! :)

Shame you are too far away to come out with me - we could train all the dogs to find truffles!!

The place i live in is very much popular for wild mushrooms and i also love them. Here they are available in open spaces and many prefer them to eat inspite of the risk present in open spaces.

Nice to find a fellow collector - your profile says you are in India: do you get temperate weather where you live? And when is the season? It finishes here by November pretty much. Open spaces are good for collecting as long as they are not close to a busy road.
