I am really sorry for your loss. Of course you hurt---you've lost a loved companion who gave you unconditional love. Your dog loved you and never judged you. In that way, they give us more than a lot of people are capable of giving. The last time I lost one of my dogs, I was amazed to see how much it affected me. I wouldn't admit this to my family, but I grieved for my dog and hurt much worse than I have for some family members I've lost. Expect to go through the stages of grief and be kind to yourself. Some people may not understand, but anyone who has ever had a dog will know how hard it is.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I just lost mine in October and I am still sometimes very sad. It actually felt like my heart was broken. It actually hurt, like a dull ache. Animals become part of the family. They are very loyal and loving, sometimes more than humans. Time will help but make sure you take the time to grieve. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Remember the good times. Maybe make some type of memorial. I have a website at petpages.com as a memorial to my dog. My dog is buried in my yard and I go out and talk to him everyday. It helps. hang in there. You are not alone.

First I want to say I'm very sorry. I think it hurts because you lost your friend. Many people don't see that as a loss. But when you have a dog for so long and they suddenly pass or something happens, it hurts really bad. I didn't have a pet die, but I had a liverspotted dalmation that was taken from me the day after Thanksgiving. We only had her for a year and a half but she was my buddy. I get attached to easily I guess. She was a very loving dog. She would let my 2 year old walk her with such awww. When my 2 year old stopped, she stopped. Losing her hurt so bad. It didn't help that a month ago, I lost my brother to murder. My husband got me a 6 month old female beagle to help me with both. With housebreaking and making sure she didn't chew everything, it slowly helped. I still miss laying on the couch and her being my feet warmers. Again, I'm very sorry about your loss.
