I think the government and the environmentalists are taking good interest in conservation of certain species of animals which were at the brink of extinction. Like Tiger in India, Panda in someother countries etc. There is a greater awareness among the people regarding extinction of the animals.

All said and done, some international money is being spent for preservation of species which are at the verge of extinction. But then the government system is so bad 80% of the funds is either spent on salaries or swallowed by these wild animals (government servants).!!

Why animals alone ,all species are getting extinct. take the case of birds,Vultures for example is almost exitnct. so also so many other birds. Apart from the illegal hunting and killing of these poor creatures for meat, exports of skin, horns and other parts of animals and birds they also get extinct by the use of pesticides and chemicals in agriculture. The vultures are getting extinct by eating poisoned meat as a result of certain medicines administered on them for illness. We need to take a wholistic view of this aspect and initiate appropriste actions. Who is having time for these universal maladies and nature talks? every one is busy there making money.

Not that I know of. I do not remember ever hearing about any famous animal that is going into extinction.
