travelling the USA

United States

I remember the trips my grandparents took me on as a kid. We saw the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Scotty's Castle, Carlsbad Caverns, DisneyLand (still my favorite, just got back from my last stay with Mickey Jan 2, 2007)& KnotsBerry Farm just to list a few. It is now one of my wildest dreams to travel the USA and see as much as I can. At 52yrs old, with my last daughter still in High School, I think its going to be a few years yet. Does anyone have some good tips on how to finance my Dreams?

I was sitting in a diner one day and started talking with an older gentleman. He said that he was a retired car saleman and knew many salesmen in the business. Now that he was retired his wife and he worked by delivering cars all over the US. Apparently there are companies out there that coordiate all this. He said they drive the car from, say, Dallas to LA, they are paid by the mile (like .15/mile) plus a per diem for hotels, food, etc. The company pays for the gas. They are also provided a bus or plane certificate to return. He said he had been to all lower 48 states and even to Alaska. I haven't followed up on this or found out anything more about it, but it sounded very intersting.
