Musicians "remixing" others songs

It has been driving me absolutely nuts lately that todays artists are only remaking the clasics! I think the first remix which drove me up the wall was when this rap artist re-made the song "run to you" by Bryan Adams. Dude! That song was never meant to be a RAP song, yikes! And nowadays, almost every single time I turn on the radio, some other artist is covering someone elses song. Do people not write their own music ??? Come on what happened to that?
