Is that the basis for the status in life? Most people conclude that you're rich when you have it especially here in the Philippines. What do you think?

Of course not... I have braces too. Nowadays, in the Philippines, you can have braces by paying an amount evrytime you visit your dentist until you are fully paid. And look, braces usually took 2 years or more before it is removed. Not bad! Plus, you'll have your teeth look good again. Ala-Close-up smile!!!

I got braces when I was 48 years old. It wasn't a status thing, it wasn't even cosmetic. It was because my teeth were so crowded they hurt all the time and I couldn't clean them properly. In fact, the dental hygenist had trouble getting between them. As a result, I was developing cavities, over and over in the same teeth, I'd have them filled and a newer, deeper cavity would form. Basically I had a choice between braces or dentures.

My son had to have his teeth fixed, he is using braces and I don't think he looks ugly. It's just to correct his teeth and he has to clean his teeth as you normally do even when you don't wear braces.

it's not a basis for one's status in life, it shouldn't be. I'm from Manila and I know that most people think that, they get that impression from well, the fact that only the rich can afford to get them. But more specifically it's the rich-with-crooked-teeth who can and will and get them. So there, it's not a basis. But I think it's sad that some people here get them just for that reason you're saying minyang, even though they've got straight teeth.
