I was watching the news last night, and this very irresponsible news program made an "exclusive" report on call center employees really made me angry. The report said that illegal drugs, pertaining to shabu (metamphetamine)is a part of call center life to keep their employees awake. That was a very terrible thing to say and on national tv! It's preposterous and Im very very angry about this! They even interviewed a "call center agent" who admitted he used drugs to keep himself awake during graveyard shifts to be able to cope up with his job. First, they didn't show the face of this guy who claims he works in a call center somewhere in a prestigious business district here in Manila . The camera just showed his hands with his fingers twitching. Duuhhh! If you looked at the guy's hands, it was pitiful. It looked dirty and sunburned. It looked like the hands of a construction worker, not of an office personnel, handling computer keyboards. Second, the guy didn't speak decent English. Which is one of the major requirements in this industry... maybe he dreams of working for a call center but the only job he could get was in the basement of the building - washing cars for call center employees. Third, and for everything else, it would be impossible for a call center agent to be a drug addict. Customer service reps, technical support, account managers, and everyone else in the industry wouldn't be able to do the job if they're not right in the head. You can't come to work drunk, much more high on drugs. Big call center companies would normally do a random drug testing every now and then on their employees, so you won't be able to hold on to that job if you're a drug dependent. I have been in this call center industry for 3 years now, and I have not seen, felt or heard anyone who used drugs in the workplace. But I understand that our job is one of the most envied jobs here in the Philippines that's why all these tall tales come out. Anybody who says that a call center agent is a drug addict because of his job would be insane. And the people behind the news program who aired this are morons.

Yup, total morons. I agree with you on this one. Irresponsible reporting, how low can one go just to get attention and increase profit. I suggest you post the name of the tv program so we can stop watching it. These idiotic imbeciles should get what they deserve.
