Yawning! Is it really contagious?

What is it with yawning? I've been observing this action all my life, and it amuses me. When I yawn beside my husband, he also yawns after me, or the other way around. It's like contagious and affects the person beside you. Do the person beside you yawn after you? Any ideas about this one?

yawning is a funny thing... one time I made my mom yawn all the way home from shopping... I know stupid huh.. but it was funny at the time.. :)

yup, I also find it funny yet sometimes embarassing in front of strangers.
