When did you wean your child and onto what?

My daughter is just over 4 months old and we're beginning to give her a little baby rice porridge and jars of fruit puree to supplement her breast & bottle feeds. Do you think this is the right time to wean her, or should we have waited longer? What did your baby LOVE the first time they tasted it?

I am the proud parent of two boys, one is 7, and one is 11 months old today! With both, we started the weaning process as soon as they started showing an interest in "grown-up" foods, which was at or around 4 months. We started simple, with rice cereal and oatmeal, and then slowly introduced new foods, being sure to give them time with each food to make sure there were no allergies. The best idea is to take it slow, consult with your pediatrician, and of course, make the baby happy! My youngest's favorite "solid" food also happens to have been his first - he loves sweet potatoes!

Thanks for that. My girl is just about 4 months now and gives anybody 'the eyes' if they dare to eat or drink infront of her! She's only tried about 4 things so far, some baby rice cereal with fruit flavours and a couple of jars of puree. Her favourite of these seems to be apple and peach puree. It's so exciting to see these big steps in their development, don't you think?!

My kids nursed until they didn't want to anymore. We offered them things as they became able to handle them with the swallow reflex and tongue control they needed. My daughter was 9 months old before she decided not to nurse anymore. My boy, a 10 pound baby, decided we would quit at about 5 months. He needed even more than what breat milk could give him. So actually it would all up to the child in our case!! Fruit is big in our family and oatmeal!

We're trying to follow her signals. She already puts everything she can hold to her mouth and looks enviously at us while we eat. She even wakes up if she smells cooking aromas in the house! She only eats a teaspoon of food a day, but I think we'll keep her on that until she's ready for more.

It's hard to tell sometimes, as there is so much conflicting advice. The foods we're giving her all say that they're suitable from 4 months, but most of the NHS books etc say that you should wean from 6 months. I don't mind anyway, as she LOVES tasting new flavours and getting all messy!

As I know, and as I did the baby shouldn't been given else than mother milk until the AGE OF 6 MONTHS. So I do not suggest you to give else, then mother milk, maybe BEBA milk till this time, if you want your child not have any allergic later. After you may give very little apple, than potato, and carrot. Very little with the milk.

We thought that he should eat suitable foods as soon as she can manage them. The foods are suitable for her age, and we're hoping this helps her development as her hand-eye coordination is coming along very quickly.

I started giving my baby solids when she was 5.5 months. According to my baby's pediatrician, it's recommended that solids be introduce at 6 months because their reproductive system is more mature during this stage so they can better handle solids. This will prevent possible allergied that migth develop if solids are intoduce at an early age.
