I have made it through the entire Cirque Du Freak / Darren Shan series and am looking for something new to sink my teeth into. Any good authors to check out?

What about the books by Laurell K. Hamilton? I've read the entire Anita Blake (vampire hunter) series. They seem really up your alley!

Hi freak369, have you tried Brian Lumley Necroscope series? They apparently are quite scary! Anne Rice is another author I would recommend. Another good book and a bit risque (thats if you can get hold of it) is 'In Blood we Lust' Hope that helps!

Have you read any of the Laurell K. Hamilton books? I really like her Anita Blake series. In the young adult sector - L.J. Smith wrote many good vampire books, and Christopher Pike wrote 6 in the Last Vampire series. I remember really liking those. I will have to agree with the first poster, Anne Rice writes pretty good vampire stories too.

I second these, I read the first five Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter books, oh, maybe 8 years ago and they are pretty good. I heard they get really weird after that, but I enjoy Hamilton's writing style. Personally, I like Anne Rice's Witching Hour books better than her vampire books (The Tale of the Body Thief didn't do it for me at all). Try The Blood Countess, by Andrei Codrescu, written before he went off the deep end and started writing about things no one cares about.

I would have to go with the Lestat series by Rice, they are very good. For a one book thing, Salems Lot by Stephen King is probably the best I have read.

They are supposed to be making a movie of the Darren Shan series, or at least the first two books, with the release date being in 2008.

Not really sure how "vampire" you like them but there are a couple of really hot series that I read (and adore). One is by Christine Feehan, the Dark Series... It starts with Dark Prince (fabulous read...). And then there is Sherrilyn Kenyons Darkhunter Series... also a wonderful series! They are not quite as bloody as some, but there is definite blood and lust!!!!! Let me know if you end up reading one and like them!

Yes Laurell K Hamilton with the Anita Bakes Series. Anita is a Vampire hunter but ends up getting involved with them and their world. It is a great series with lots of twists and believe me you will love the vampires in this series.
