Do you hate sharing recipes as much as I do?

Ok, I absolutely hate sharing recipes because I don't ever measure things. I'm a good cook, no Rachel Ray, but we seem to go to lots of picnics, potlucks and the like and almost without exception someone will ask me for a recipe. I can tell you what all is in a recipe, but if you need to know how much or how little I can't do it! This is really kind of ironic because when I call my mom for hints or tips or recipes, she can never tell me how much of anything to add... and it drives me nuts! Do you like sharing recipes ... do you cook by code or by taste?

I am a little shy about sharing recipes. Because even though I could give you a general amount of how much I put into it...when you make it, it will not be exactly as mine is. Because I have been making it so long and I know what tastes better, I change it to mine and my family's liking. So...I guess I cook by taste. LOL Example...my sister and her daughter wanted the recipe for the chocolate chip pancakes I make. Even though I could give them a general measurement, my niece says it is not the same. So, when they came to visit me, I always had to make chocolate chip pancakes because "Nobody makes them like Tia." LOL And I tell them...because Tia does not go by measurements. LOL But my sister still calls me asking for recipes. The last time she called me, I had to sit there and think about about how much I put in of stuff for apple pies. I even had to tell her just to shake the apple pie spice on the apples unless it was well dusted. I couldn't figure out how much I put! LOL But my sister is grateful enough that she is happy if it turns out close to it. Now...ask me how I cook beans...can't do it. I just keep adding until it tastes and smells right. ha ha So, I know exactly how you feel!

You sound like me, I also do the same, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Can never make a recipie straight way, I have to add something and then nevr know how much to add. lol I do share my recipies because they are always incomplete so it doesn't make a difference, I just keep few tricks up my sleeves and leave them wondering why there's was not hte same.

some dishes i do by recipe, others, i do by taste. but, i don't mind sharing my recipes with anone. in fact, i teach them to high school students. i'm even thinking of opening a summer cooking class for kids. as one instructor once told me, it's not the recipe, it's in the hands.

I think it's great that you're taking something that you love and teaching others. That's a great attitude that you have. Oh, it's not the recipe ... it's in the hands, then the mouth!

Well, I certainly don't think that it's a crime, but I do think that it gets difficult when people need to know measurements and that's not how my mind works!

I absolute hate sharing my recipes. You have no idea how often someone askes me for my recipes for Sweet and Sour Trout recipe. I think that I should start to trying to sell the bad boy. I bet I could make at least a dollar or two. Anyone want it, just let me know, and I will be happy to send it to you!

I am an odd cook. I take a recipe and I tear it apart before I ever make it. I decide what works best and in what amounts I will add. As I make the recipe, I make notes on it. Then when it is done, I rate it. I then go back and work on it again. I do this till it is the way I want it to taste and look and the right texture. I love cooking with spices and herbs. I sprinkle them into my pot straight out of my container. I make my own mixes and my own spice combination. I put a little of this and a little of that till it is my recipe. My creation.

Sometimes I cook by code if its new to me but I usually cook by taste. Everyone cooks differently. I like sharing my recipes with people who care about cooking. And then I learn from them when they share.

On the contary I love sharing it. I think its no harm in tellink what you good cook and also in asking what's other cook good. Ofcourse you have to be a patience person with the measurements, after all good food is about right ingredients in right amount.

I like to share but i dont know really good reciepies for the sake of picnics or for outside and i like somebody sharing their tips for me to do it. My mother knows but when i ask her for that she tells it is not necessary for you and it makes no sense for you so tell me what you wanted and she doesnot allow me to the kithchen also.

i am not good in numbers so i don't really use cups and measurements. everytime i cook i just follow my own instinc. if i know the food tastes good and smells good then i know i am in the right track.

When you bake (notice Rachel NEVER bakes) you need to measure things. You cannot just through a bit of this and a bit of that and have something that is going to turn out right. Sharing recipies doesn't have to be about this amount or that amount. I have had friends tell me recipies that I was able to imitate and they came out great. It was a new taste for me and my husband and it has my own personal flair.

Oh I love sharing recipes as unfortunately I am not one of these people with the ability to just throw things together. It amazes me to watch someone cook without a recipe and have the meal turn out to be fabulous. I don't know what spices go with what and the few that I do know, I never know how much to put in to make it taste just right. I envy those that can.

I don't hate sharing recipes, but I do find it hard sometimes, because like you, I rarely measure things and just cook by instinct and tastes. I've made some mighty tasty "Iron Chef" meals this way!

I wont share my recipes with anyone. They were passed down to me by my mom (some by my dad) and have stayed in the family for as long as anyone can remember. That's where they will always stay is in the family.

You know, I am the same way! Especially when I make marinara sauce or Italian sausage, I start from scratch and just season to my taste. Hardly ever measure anything.

I usually cook by taste, I think of others that would taste my recipe and not just for myself. I also don't measure things or follow a cookbook, it makes me feel like I'm on a cooking lesson. I try to substitute other expensive ingridients, especially for those which are too much for my health. I only use cookbooks as an idea in how to prepare the dishes.. I do sometimes share my recipes, for others to have a healthy cooking and living.

I don't measure things when I cook either. I have a vegan recipe site so I have to try and measure things so I can put the recipes on it, and it never works out as well as when I just guess the recipe and keep tasting until it tastes nice.
