My baby has asthma, almost every month we would go to the doctor because of her situation. I felt that my baby which is more than a year old has a lot of medicines inside her now. Is there anyway to prevent this kind of illness aside from taking drugs?

Finding out what the allergy triggers are is the first step. My son, seems to be allergic to everything. He has the coughing side of asthma, so any runny nose starts him in a coughing fit. It does seem upsetting to put so much meds into our kids, but once you find what triggers it you can start from there. Good luck.

That is absolutely correct. It's like my baby just smelled antibiotics and all those medicines. It's not easy if your baby has this kind of sickness especially that i am a working mom.

I have heard that honey...if honey comes from a local source, it has the pollens in it that your child can be allergic to. It can help them become immune to them. But use with caution, honey can not be given to small babies or very young children. Cold air at night time was a trigger for my son, I must keep house at 76 degrees year round/ day and night....but my neighbor's son must be kept in a cool house or his asthma acts up. Keep in mind you will get to know your son better than the doctor and can figure out a lot of this. I use All Free and Clear detergent, otherwise he breaks out in small bumps. I use Dove for senstive skin w/ no perfumes or additives. Some cheap perfumes can also start up his asthma. I was blessed to be able to work for my father and take my kids to work with me. It was the best and worst of both worlds. lol. I knew my kids so well, that I would notice a runny nose a mile away. Watch for small changes, it took me two years and learning more from a neighbor than a doctor to really understand and take a firm handle on my son's asthma.

just got off the phone with him, he says to try the Feingold diet too, Feingold is touted as a remedy for ADHD/ADD, but my friend says that it helps asthma too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feingold_diet

i feel the same for you. my baby is 9 months old now. he had asthma since he was 4 months old. we also go to his pulmonologist every month. i guess, first of all try to observe what causes his asthma. most of the time its because of allergens like dust mites, animal fur or hair, hairy textures, cold or hot weather and even a change in weather can cause it. from there work it out to prevent. you cam also provide vitamin C so as to protect him too. my son uses the seretide inhaler for his maintenance. hope that your baby would get well soon.

Just would like to share with you my baby's case. When she was 6-month old her asthma was triggered and so my pedia after on and off of asthma attacks decided to change her formula to hypo allergenic and gave her a maintenance med for four months. Then a friend told me to try giving her carrot juice. So I did fresh carrot juice every morning and mix it with a little pineapple juice for better taste and she's doing great now. I have consulted my pedia then she decided to stop the maintenance med and continue with the carrot juice. But definitely you have to consult your pedia.

my baby was diagnosed with skin asthma when he was just 3months old. it was triggered by his milk formula according to his pedia so we shifted to another brand and used some topical creams on his skin like elica. it soon disappeared. now that we have transferred here in the middle east where the weather is dry his skin asthma has returned and he often has colds. we were worried that it would develop into a full blown asthma. a friend of us who's kid also has asthma shared that when she started giving her freshly squeezed lemon juice and a few teaspoons of honey with minced garlic his asthma attacks have lessened. i'm trying that concoction now on my son now and hopefully it would help him too

Will that still work without the honey? because in our country, honey is very expensive. I hope it will work without honey because I can have the lemon and the garlic at hand.
