How has the increased cost of gasoline affected your daily life?

I do not do a lot of extra running around during the week, but do try to combine errands that I run so that I do not have to run back and forth, wasting gas (and time) in the process.
Our family still plans get-a-way trips and go on vacation, and while we have to pay more to fill up the car to travel a distance we still do go.
I do know several friends who have really cut down on where they go and how far they will drive due to the cost of putting gas in their car. Also, I know several people who traded in their larger car or truck for a more economical one.
What about you? Has the cost affected you and how you are living your life?

I wanted to trade in my minivan for something smaller, but it is not practical with 3 kids and parents who don't drive. I often have 6 people in my van. I don't do just one errand at a time anymore. On days that I don't work, I walk to the kids school to pick them up. I am now carpooling to one of my children's activites, so that helps also.

I know what you mean, I have 2 boys, plus my hubby and my mother, and very often the boys have a friend or two tagging along somewhere -- I have a van too and I need it for all the "hauling" I do!
That's nice you live close enough to do some walking back and forth. Carpooling must help too - I wish I could do one or both. THanks for responding.

It hasn't changed anything for us. We don't pay for our gas.. so it hasn't effected us directly. Now if we were to pay for our own gas, then we would have to re route a lot of things! Gerard works over 20 minutes away.. that's a 40 minute drive, 5 days a week. That would be a lot of gas, and a lot of money out the door! It takes a lot to fill the tank. We have an 1998 Ford Explorer.

How much is gas in your country?
Where I live it ranges from $2.19 to $2.44 U.S. dollars a Gallon.

It hasn't really affected us much at all. We live in base housing, and since we both work on base, it is less than 2 miles to work for my husband and less than 1 mile to work for me. We just go off base about once, sometimes twice a week to go to church and go shopping at Walmart, Target, or KMart, or all three.
We still do our "Vacationing" which consists of driving 1000 miles each way to go see our family. I've been in ND for almost 2 years and have been home three times. I'm going again in June.
We actually got rid of our more economical car in favor of a larger one. Only because we wanted back doors, though. The car seat was too much of a pain in my old (I guess maybe old is the wrong word to use? It's an '03...) Cavalier. But when we got rid of the Cavalier we actually got rid of the Dodge truck, too. So I guess it kinda balanced out. The Ram got about 12 miles per gallon. The Cavalier got around 32. The Malibu Maxx we have now gets around 26. We also have another car and truck, though. So it seems like we are constantly putting gas in something. But we just suck it up and go on with life.

I combine my trips as much as possible. We live out in the country. The nearest town of any size is about a 30 minute drive away. If I have one or two errands that need done, I'll have my son do them instead of me making a special trip. He goes to town every day during the week for school anyway, so is already there.

We don't do any extra driving than we have to now. It just costs way to much money to fill our tanks! We try to schedule all outings on the same day so we can make all stops in one day, whatever way is the most efficient on gas. We used to drive around and look at the expensive houses and some of the local sites for fun but we can't afford to do that anymore.

I am a little more conscious of how many times I make trips during the day. I try to go out just once and do all of my errands. Before teh gas prices were high I would be in and out all day. I've also stopped going to the mall, which saves me gas money and sepdnding money!
