My daughter has an unusual surname and was thought to have been German, however I did some research into it and found out it was actually Irish! There are only 6 other homes in the country with the same surname and they are all family members!

My current surname has only been in the family for 2 generations as my grandfather changed his name as he wanted to join the army and he was too young. That in itself is an interesting story, but the original family name goes back years. There is a little tiny village of about 4 houses that the name originated from and my ancestor used to be lord of the manor there. I have visited it, I found it really interesting.

Derived, according to antiquarians, from the German word Muntz, but probably the son of Mon or Mun, a nickname for Edmund.

I have no idea of the origin of my married name. My maiden name is dutch. The first part means "of", but I have been unable to locate a place with the name of the second part of the name. It seems to be a fairly common name in Holland and Belgium. My stepmother has been doing geneological research into my father's family, but she hasn't come across the origin of the name, either.
