I can't answer this completely because I haven't shopped for web sites in nearly 7 years. I bought my own domain name and have had my site hosted at the same place since. I pay about $140 a year for both combined. There are web sites you can get free but I'm not sure if the search engines rank those. If you do pay for a site the server it's on doesn't matter what the ranking is, what will be ranked is the information you put on the site - content is very important for that, go light on the pictures and get some good articles on that the search engines can pick up when they crawl the web. A way to help your rank is to get other sites with high ranks to link to your site - you do want them to be similiar to your site though.

i sugest use a blog. paid blogs give you more functios. you can buy a domain if needed. starting a new website is not that easy. bringing traffic to the website is even tougher. anyway all the best.

I am hosting my sites on dreamhost.com for just 24$ for a year with a free domain name. you can also get the package by just mentioning the promo code DH45 when you signup.

i think you should learn a bit more about how websites and from the sounds of it, domains work, and what they will require, you may want go to a site like register.com and just read around to figure it out, if you dont want to write it in code, or use a visual editor on your computer then mess with uploading, you may want to try a websit e like doteasy.com to make your site
