Me and my boyfriend are already on its 9th year this 2007. We're planning to get married by January 2008. Do you think that a long-term engagement/relationship can be a basis of choosing your lifetime partner? What do you think?

A big No. there are some couples that after 20 yrs they realized that they were not meant to be... Only time can tell....so as long as we do not know what the future can give us....make your present full of memories or make the most of out it....

I was with my partner a long time before marrying. We dated for a few years then were engaged for 6 years before getting married.

I think it's really up to the people and your situation. If you aren't ready to get married or have responsibilities you need to take care of then I think a long term engagement is great. I always think it's best not to get married until you are completely ready. There is so much separation now that I think it might be smart.

It all depends on each other.you can meet a person for a week and can spend a lifetime with each other or you can spend years together and then one fine day just part ways..... Relationships need to be worked on .....its the quality that matters and not the number of years you have stayed together.

Oh I do think that you have had far too long a relationship but I am very happy that you are going to get married in January, as I hope and pray that my children never go this long with a long term relationship before they decide what they are going to do with their relationship, as I do not favour long-term relationship I prefer to be married and I am.

Yes I believe in long time engagement. Like for eg. I love a girl but I want to be committed as soon as possible but I cant marry her until I got stand up on my own feets. So in this case long term marriages suits you.

In my own point of view, i don't think that matter. Whether it's a month long relationship or 2 yrs. It's not the quantity that counts really, its the "quality" of the relationship that makes it ideal.

i think for some its a good idea.i dont see nothing wrong with it...at least in a long term by the time you two are to be married yall can find out each other differences and what all yall have in common. i think its ok either way tho
