Are people really here to make friends?

I have heard alot of people sayiny that they are here to make some money. So the incentive of making and responding to discussion's is money based. How do you know if someone only wants to add you as a friend for networking, not that he or she really cares about what you have to say. In fact, If this site did not offer any money, would anybody really be here to make friends? What do you all think?

My initial impulse to join mylot is for the money. I didn't know I could make friends over here. But when they added me I approve it but honestly am not really into building an empire of friends. Well, right now I've got "discussion friends" who I share thoughts and feelings with but it's far-fetch to think of something more than that. However, if I meet people here who are from the same city as I am then I think it's a little possible. You never know really.
