Is it really worth while for companies to block chatting from office. People who really want to chat or for that matter do anything else can as well do it pretty easily with so many array of proxy sites and ip address logins available. This will only encourage people to do more of what is prohibited as we all like to eat the prohibited fruit more.

I think it really helps the employees to focus more on work rather than chatting, though I'd like to chat with my friends and I do not wish my company does that too. I've seen some of my colleagues just keep chatting during working hours, and didn't do their work. As not all the employees have self-discipline, and companies just have no other choice but to block the employees from chatting too much. I was not used to it when my company started to block us from chatting, but slowly I just get used to it. Sometimes, when I really want to discuss something important with my friends, I'll just use the company emails. (Webmails are blocked in my company too.)
