Are there advantages in denying a request for friend?

I find it difficult to turn down a request for fear that I might hurt people's feelings. I know that a lot don't even bother to answer your postings while your list is getting longer and longer every time. Aside from that, are there any other reasons why we should deny a request? Have you denied a request?

Hi, I've denied requests from people because I don't believe their discussions match my way of thinking, or because they are blantantly just posting discussions for the hell of it without any forethought. I'm also quite happy to delete friends aswell, especially if they don't participate! I don't think you should worry about it too much.

Thank you. This is what I'm going to do at least for now. I will accept invitations and if they don't prove or show good reasons why they should be in the friends list, I will delete them later on. At least by that time they already have an idea why they were deleted.
