Apparently he didn't see his shadow, so Spring is supposed to be early this year. Anyone believe in this stuff? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070202/ap_on_re_us/groundhog_day

As much as I like the movie Groundhog Day, and as interested as I am in American myths and legends, I have to say that this business of spring coming earlier or later is pure bunk. The seasons are not based on climate events, but rather by the tilt of the earth and the planet's relative position to the sun at four regular three month intervals. Thus, spring will show up on its normal calendar date, even if spring-like conditions don't.

I had to laugh, last night the brood said, "Are we going to see Phil this year?" and I said, sure ... not realizing that TODAY was Groundhog Day. Needless to say, we didn't make the trip. I think it's a fun thing but don't really think that a groundhog that lives in a library can predict the weather. With the way it's snowing right now ... I'm pretty sure he is wrong!

I think he usually is wrong. One of these days I need to find out exactly how and why we decided checking for Phil's shadow to see if Spring was coming was a good idea.

Naw, I never pay attention to the old guy. He lives in Pennsylvania and how he can predict weather for Michigan is beyond me. To me Pennsylvania is an interesting state. So, if they are gonna have an early spring, that is great news. But for me, spring will get here when it gets here...lol.

I don't pay much attention, either. Now we're in Virginia and there isn't really a Spring here. It's either cold and wet or hot and humid. Not much room for in between.

Well it's now March 4th-- 4 weeks after good ole Phil came out of hiding! And it's still cold as crud and we have another snow storm coming! Nope I don't beleive in Phil and 6 more weeks or not! My favorite Groundhog day was 2006-- When he came out wrapped in a terrible towel! Go Steelers-- This is one I did pay attention to.

I think it's just good 'ole silly fun that has become a big cult or tradition -- I mean it's on the national news and is the talk of news programs for days leading up to the event. Either way, 6 weeks til an early spring, or 6 more weeks of winter . . . hmmmmm how could he be wrong! lol

Looking at the terrible ice storm we are having right now, and all the snow storms we have gotten for the past week or so with more predicted, things don't look good here in Michigan.
