MyLot Downtime

I was in the middle of writing a response yesterday when MyLot went down for a server upgrade, do you find this annoying or is there any way of finding out when scheduled downtime is going to happen? I've sent a message to Mylot asking if they could put a message on the site or even a countdown timer so that we can plan our activities on Mylot.

I agree, it is most annoying, particularly after I have typed a long response. It has sometimes happened as much as three times in one night and I just gave up after that. Most sites let us know when they are going to upgrade, so why not MyLot. Did you receive a response from MyLot or were they unable to respond due to site maintenance?

I've not had a reply yet, can sometimes take several days to get one. Its not so bad if you are able to copy what you are posting so you can store it, but as I don't have enough points for that yet, I can't copy and paste. With nearly 70,000 users on MyLot there must be a number of people who were disadvantaged at the same time when MyLot went down.

Now had a response from Mylot ' They understand my frustrations and will work better to communicate planned outages in the future.'

yeah that could be really annoying since finding your words the second time is hard. good thing for me i havent experience that everytime they do downtime i got to finishe what im typing just like last night. i think that is a good idea a timer or a countdown to let us know about teh downtime.

That's a good thing to know, mylot should always think of their members' convinience. They should send us alerts a day before their schedule for others to know, just in case they were offline..

Yes I have had the same problem many times. I definately think some sort of dowtime counter or schedule would be useful. To try and stop my words been lost into oblivion I always copy whatever I write before submitting it, although I can't just re-paste the text as I haven't reached the glorious 500 posts yet, it does mean that i can copy it into word and retype it into mylot later on if I want to. I hope you hear back from mylot, hopefully they'll take your ideas on board, let us know what they say.

It is annoying when you are interupted. Other sites announce their down time and you plan around it. YOu don't have to think you did it or worry about your computer. Hope that they hear your plea and do tell us from now on. It seems only fair and reasonable. Thanks for bringing this up!!

Hopefully the Mylot admins will take your suggestion to heart and maybe send alerts for downtime when scheduled. It drives me crazy too, especially if I've just finished typing something lengthy and than it gets lost.

I've been caught in that upgrade also and it would be nice if they could let us know when it was scheduled. At least that one we could avoid but I think a lot of whats's happening on Mylot is just growing pains and we're going to be getting caught off guard here and there. For instance today, for some reason, it's taking a long time for my responses to get posted. I understand that they can't always give us warnings about everything but at least we could be told about the scheduled upgrades.

I noticed earlier on today that responses were taking longer than they were, now that there are more than 70000 users then the server could be grinding to a halt, (70,124) at time of writing this, although a lot of the members may not be active. It might be an idea if MyLot could show how many members are actually using Mylot at any one time.

URRGG. I have been responding every time it has gone down. One day I had typed in 4 or 5 responses and I submitted them all at the same time, and guess what? I got the message that we were down for upgrades!!! I had to re-write everyone of them and re-post. I think a warning would be nice, like someone said, a count down of some sort, or alert that a system downtime is about to happen, any thing is better than nothing!
