Okay this goes to everybody(all countrys).....if you had to teach somebody one sentence in your native language.....what would you teach them and why? I'm from Germany and the one sentence I would teach that person would be..... "Koennen Sie mir bitte etwas mehr Deutsch beibringen?"( could you please teach me some more German?).I picked that sentence because I think it would be the most helpful to anybody that didn't speak the language already and if someone asked me that....I would gladly help them. So how about you.....what would you teach them and why?

Wow - for a non native English speaker, your English is amazing!! Well, I am British, and mine would probably be similar. It would be, "I am trying to learn your language, please can you speak a little slower so that I can try and understand a little better." I almost said "I would like a gin and tonic please", but guess that would be facetious!!! I also think it is important for everyone to be able to say "hello", "please" and "thank you" in the language of any country they are visiting, so in honour of my Argentine partner, I will add "hola", "por favor" and "gracias"!

Thanks rosie_123....I've had a few years of practice....besides I love learning new languages.I'm fluent in both english and german.....but when I first started to learn english....I used the sentence that you picked a lot.I grew up in Ramstein(home of the largest U.S. Airbase in europe)and had lots of contact with Americans and I know first hand how hard it can be to try to keep up when they get to talking really fast. I agree on the other ones....so here is for anybody that would like to know these words in german.Hallo...bitte....Dankeschoen.

Hi winky, I must second the opinion that your English is really good. I suppose it wouldn't hurt for people to teach simple things like hello, thanks, goodbye etc. 'could you help me please' would be a good one. When I was in Aachen a few years ago I found the most helpful sentence I had been taught was 'sorry I don't understand' I can say it in German but I wouldn't like to spell it out on here! That helped me out an huge amounts of times as they knew from my accent that I was a stupid English person and 9 times out of 10 would speak back to me in English. Although I did try and speak the language as much as I could!! Great discussion topic
