I always admire a stewardess when I see one. A symbol of courage of a woman not to mention her beauty. Most stewardess are beautiful, that's true. There was a time when I asked my daughter to consider the job but her heart was really on computers.
I think it is unfair to call the profession glorified waitressing.
Any comment?

I don't think it is unfair really as in all honesty thats what they are, I really don't mean to offend people by saying this either. Yes they are pretty and have to be more intelligent as they have to know many languages, but they are there to serve people food and wait on passengers hand and foot, the only difference is that they do it at 30,000 feet! In the olden days they used to stop off in different countries for a few days at a time, but thats all stopped now and all they see of most countries is their airport!

I agree that it is unfair to call the job "glorified waitressing", but I also think that it is unfair to imply that there is something wrong with waitressing. When we go out to eat, don't we all want and appreciate a friendly and competent waitress?
Back to the subject, though. Stewardesses do "waitress" work, but they are also very well trained about the FAA policies and procedures and safety and rescue procedures. They go through extensive training on how to handle a number of emergencies that could arise. They have to prove that they are mentally, emotionally, and physically competent to ensure the safety of the passengers in case of an emergency. And they have to be personable and pleasant enough to ease the apprehensions of nervous passengers and ensure the comfort of all. I would think that it is still an admirable profession.
