It's just a natural "cat thing" -- natural instinct for them to do that. She's trying to show you that she loves you and bringing you her prizes -- she catches them and leaves them for you. :-)

Even my cat used to do that. I failed to do anything. I think it's their nature.

She will not listen to you. You can try changing her attention towards something else. But I doubt that will work? If only you can spend a long time with her then only you can get some success. But all the best for your efforts.

our cat runs after squirrel and kills birds too. once he brought one to our doorstep. its heard that it means they are protecting you and your family. somehow! thats what they think.

LOL. Its just natural instinct for a cat. Does your cat have a bell on its collar? My cat stalks the birds then when he's right near them he gets excited and does little jumps so he never catches any LOL. Hes a little bugger with mice though. 3 times now hes caught one and brought it inside but he doesnt eat them he plays with them, then gets bored and leaves them to run around the house while im on the table screaming and my fiance is chasing them out the door!

She's so darn fat I didn't think she could even run that fast...my other cat is sleek and hyper and she never kills anything...of course she keeps having kittens...the other one just got spayed a few months ago..wonder if that has anything to do with this new hobby??

I dont see anything un-natural about it. Usually its like this all around the world. Cats do eat birds. Its in their nature to behave like that for they dont see the bird as a bird, but rather as a nice meal. If your cat is overfed, then for her, its just a snack :-)

Bird-killing cats may be one of nature's ways of making better birds . Read the article: http://www.txtwriter.com/Onscience/Articles/killercats.html This will give the answer.

Cats do have a predatory instinct. It's from the years of evolution from the wild to domestic and it does leave a mild streak. She's probably just started to take the interest now. Did you just move to a new place or have had some migatory birds settle into your area?

Natural instincts. Animals are predators. Just watch a cat go for mice.

Yes, Sometimes it is natures way of getting and overfed cat to exercises. I found when my cats were heavier is when they would go after birds more..... I figured nature set that up so a cat would remain healthier.... Most cats naturally love to play... Just as Dogs naturally love to run and chase anything cats love to chase and catch anything smaller them them as well. Including eachother... and romp and play :) .. I watch my adult cats and kittens all play with eachother and bat eachothers heads not fighting just playing :) ... Sometimes they catch things to give back to us for carrying for them leaving us treats like we leave them treats... other times they are hungry and want more... Cats will play with anything small that moves if they are in the mood. rocks, Leaves, your toes, fingers, nose, eyelashes... Most of the time it is out of their desire to play, and in the wilderness that desire makes them a good skilled hunter, so they do not go hungry. - DNatureofDTrain
