Staring at the Last Supper (the painting) after reading the Da Vinci Code...

This is purely for my curiosity. How many of us here read the Da Vinci Code? I know I did. Simple enough question right? But when you read the part about the painting (the last supper), when Dan Brown tells us that the person on the Jesus' right is actually a woman, how many of you logged online to surf or the Last Supper and stared at it for a bit to see if you can see the "woman"? I know I did that. I stared looking for the hand at the neck too.

I have studied the painting in my art history classes many times and then more times when Brown's novel was published. I have been told, will always tell people and will always believe that the figure is in actuality the apostle St. John the Evangelist. In the Bible (don't ask me to quote where, I can't remember, St. John is described as falling asleep with his head on Christ's shoulder, etc. He was the youngest and the most feminine looking. This was the apostle who wrote the Book of Revelations, which is another reason DaVinci might have sat him next to Christ. As liberated as DaVinci probably was about attitudes toward women especially the Magdalene, DaVinci was more likely wrapped up in his drawing of mechanized instruments and flying machines to put much emphasis on the true "Sangreal".

I'm sorry but I have to correct you. The St. John who was with Jesus during the last supper wasn't the same one who wrote the Revelation. Modern scholars have agreed to that. I apologize for turning this into a religious discussion, Hopefoo! Just couldn't resist.lol!

I did that too! And quite frankly I'm not sure about the alleged female on Jesus' side. The pictures are not that clear. And yes I did stared at the hand too! Though i can't count the hands, because as I said, the pictures are quite obscure. And I searched for the "Madonna of the Rocks". I must admit, the description in the Da Vinci code seems to quite right.

i did that too.. watched the movie too but i did'nt get to read the book. im not fond of reading thick books specially with out drawings or caricatures.. im to darn lazy for that kinda stuff..im not a catholic and not that much into religous things.there were lines and words that couldnt sink in to my shallow mind but all in all, it was nice.. and how the author pulled it all.. and get away with it nicely.. and at the end after seeing the movie and seeing the last supper closely.. you would really think.. it might be true after all..
