if a child is left handed do you think he/she should be encouraged to use the right hand and does it really make much difference in later life ?

Of course not. Being left-handed is not anormal, people just have a dominant hand different from standarts and that's it. If they are left-handed I think it makes no sense forcing them to write with the right hand because it probably would not work and I don't think it makes any differences in a person's life.

You know each person is born with a individual body and personality. There is nothing wrong with a left handed person. Years ago they used to force kids to use their right hands in school. They never even used to have left handed desks. I think that each and every person ought to be accepted as who they are. Let's look at their personality instead of something as small as whether they use their right hand or left hand. I am right handed myself.

Most of the things in this world are designed for right handed people and that is the problem. Things should be designed with the fact that there are people who are also left handed. I do think the world is changing but things are still mainly designed for right handed people. Just because they do things differently shouldn't make any difference. Encourage your grandson like I know you do.

the right or left hand usage depend on the wieght of brain on the side.it should not be forced.my sister's daughter is left handed.she was very much worried and asked her doctor regarding this. Her physician told not to force her to use the right hand and allow her to use the hand which is easy to her.so she is writing in left hand only.

I am left handed and the only one in my family. I wasnt showed any special acceptions, if my mom taught me something she didnt even think about me be left handed. I used the same type siccor's as my sister, etc. Never did I feel odd or anything like that. As I have grown up I use both my left and right hand to play softball I use a right handed glove, when using my mouse and computer it is set up for right handed people, I cut with my right hand, I can even write with my right hand but it looks like a first grader. I say all this because I think that you shouldnt worry about it just go on with things and not even show there is a difference. I was never encouraged to use my right hand but I use it for many things. When you are teaching your child teach them the way you do it with the hand that you use, when you are teaching writing they will automatically use there left hand don't switch it for them let them use it. It will all work out ok in the end just use your right hand and if your child need to use there left then allow them to and go on about it. Good Luck.

thanks for your encouraging words and yes i have noticed my grandson does use the mouse on his pc with his right hand i did originally set it up for his left but he says hes more comfortable this way. What made me realise he may find things difficult was when he tried to open a tin can but i'll look on the website another mylot user has recommended and see if there are things i can get him to make little things more easier tc xx

I'd say don't force a change if it's natural to be left handed. I'm right handed but I thought it'd be great to use both. I tried to teach myself to be left handed but I didn't persevere with it - my loss really. I was able to draw better left handed though - interesting. Thankfully times are changing somewhat where manufacturers are catering more for lefthanders, but still a long way to go. Check out this webside by the way if you need a left handed can opener www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk. Hope that helps make a decision.

No I don't think it makes any difference these days. I'm sure there are plenty of left handed people that don't have any problems but I could be wrong ha!
