My new resolution about the BEST REPLY!

Brazil
February 3, 2007 5:44pm CST
Dear all, have you noticed that most of the people don't rate the replies that they get in their discussions? And most probably that rating would give more points to the ones who reply, right? Sometimes it is difficult to rate - whose reply is the best. So, I decided to apply a new strategy. From now on any user who is the first to reply an of my discussions is going to get the "best reply" rating. I think this is fare enough, considering the fact that this user is validating my whole discussion with his first reply.

I'm not sure if I agree or not, but I suppose it's better than not giving it to anyone at all :P

I've never really understood what the point is to the best response!?

You may do it as you want but I think you should try select the one you think it's the best and so mark it, because if you do like you're saying it will be kind of random and someone who could have earned a 'best response' won't get that opportunity anymore.

I respect your opinion. Tell me, please, do you mark all your responses?

No, I don't. When I'm not sure which response I should mark as best I prefer not to mark any.

I dont know if the one that denotes as the best reply would be higher in rating. If that's it, lets try, I invited you as my friend, and if ever you have a new discussion I will be glad to reply.

I don't think I would want to do things that way, becuase it means the person who spends the time to type out a complex and lengthy reply gets beaten out by the person who types a quick one-sentance response. Not a criticism you understand, just explaining why I think I would choose to do things differently.

Interesting opinion. Do you rate the responses on all your discussions?

dont u think this is a gimmick to attract replies.....maybe you will get just one reply and it will be the best........

ironically, just one reply is enough to validate your discussion (moneywise)

The final decision is obviously your's, but this is a very poor way of choosing a best response. I wait until I have received a response worthy of the title before making a decision, because it seems totally unfair to give the rating to a poor response when someone else takes the time to present a very good submission.

I always rate all my answers with a +, as long as they are relevant to the discussion. However, I wait and after a few days choose a reply that gets "best response" I am not sure that it will be a good idea to just hand it out to the first person... Coz sometimes it might not be close to the best one, However it is your discussion, and your choise =)

Well, that's fair enough Zebrochka. At least you are very honest and you are letting the people who repond to your topics know how you are going to choose the best response. It is your choice to choose whichever one suits you best and it is nice to know how different posters choose their best response. Well, done.

you can't do that. It is not fair. You must understand between the best response and the first response. It is two different thing. You better stop. Vote me for the best response please.

I do rate everyone who posted in my discussion. Most of the time i gave them a '+' regardless whether they agree to me or not.I do give some '-' if the person give a rude comment or not related to my topic. And i give the best response to someone i think deserving i dont just choose anyone.Giving the best response to whoever give the first comment is not fair.unless its the only comment you got in your discussion.

As its your best responce to give out, you can do with it what you please, But it should really go to the Best responce not the first responce. As anyone can just write anything then, just to be first reply... At least you are very honest and you are letting the people who repond to your topics know, but why should these good friends think of a good reply to give you if they now know that it wont be read and judged by you? It wouldnt really work would it, and why would anyone else bother to reply once they see whay you have said? You could very well end up with all your discussions now having just one answer!!? Good luck to you.

I have to agree that it can be difficult to choose a best response, and I've never even had to do that myself yet! I can just imagine. However, I think that some responses are well thought out, well written, and easy to understand. Some may not be. While it may not be easy to make the choice, it might be more fair to consider those who are trying their hardest, rather than that one lucky individual who might be the fastest to send a reply.

Bad move, Zeb. So the 'best' reply could be rubbish just because it is first? haha Well why not, it is better than none at all as you quite rightly say. Go Zeb, go!!

Well... that don't make much sense... What about if the answer is wrong or worthless? Furthermore... there must be a lot of people like me who will be reluctant to answer a question if the best answer has already been choosen. The reason that I am still waiting to give a best answer to some of my questions is... 1) Once I do... I am killing the question. 2) Many have very few answers and I had set a target of 20 answers before judging them. 3) A lot of them are poor and short answers... so not really worth rating. People reply with a two lines sentences and then wonder why they only have made 5 cents during the day. Quality posts on myLot means long posts. Quite frankly... I would be asking a lot more questions if people would answer them.

I don't have as many posts as I have replies. So it's pretty easy to look at my posts once a month and rate the best response. I do rate all of my friends posts a + when I respond to them from emails. . my friend

Yes ,its fair enough ,but what if someone is late to see your discussion and is much better then the previus one ,what about that ,its does not sound practical to me ,think over it ,but you are also not 100 % wrong ,so do whatever you like
