I love roasting marshmallows, but living alone, there's just no reason for me to build a fire out back for a few marshmallows...well I discovered a little trick.
***PLEASE BE SAFE WHEN DOING THIS!!! CHILDREN SHOULD NOT DO THIS UNSUPERVISED!***
Get a can of sterno, and if you've got a fondue set, get your fondue sticks. I go to the stove and light the sterno, put the marshmallow on your fondue stick and presto! You're roasting marshmallows in the house!
AS I SAID, PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION WHEN DOING THIS...but it's fun, it's easy, and no need to go build a fire just for a few marshmallows!

i've used candles, and gas stoves...course, if the marshmallow falls off on the stove, you've got an awful mess...

I tried roasting marshmallows for the first time ever this summer. Mann that's nasty, I can't believe some people enjoy that burned sticky sweet substance. Yack...

I'm sorry you didn't like it...maybe you roasted it too long (because you mentioned "burned"). Maybe one day you can try it again..keep it over the fire just long enough to get it light brown. Anyway, thanks for the response

You did not mention whether you have an electric stove or a gas stove. A friend of mine has a gas stove and she roasts marshmallows by lighting a burner and placing a marshmallow on a long stick and holding it over the flame. I don't think this would work on an electric stove. By the way, what is sterno? I've never heard of it before.

i have electric..i've done it with a gas stove, but i don't like doing it because if the marshmallow falls, you've got an awful mess to clean up. Sterno is actually a gel that burns. You can buy it just about anywhere, even walmart. It will either be in the cooking section or the camping section. You light it and it's used under fondue pots to heat them up. I've used cans of sterno for many things.

I bought my son one of thoes little s'mores makers one year for Christmas. The idea is to roast the marshmallow over a light bulb. Needless to say, it did not work very well, and we ended up using one of my big candles instead. That worked pretty well.

I've wondered about those...thanks for letting me know it doesn't work. I've tried a candle too, but I just got the idea one day with the sterno and it worked so much better. Thanks for the info!
