Hi Jinesh, if you consider talent, then it's undoubtably sehwag. But srikkanth has the distinction of introducing the one day flash batting concept even without himself understanding it, as it was his natural way of playing. AND SEHWAG HAS TO BEG TO GET SOME OF HIS HAND EYE COORDINATION MIND YOU. I doubt whether you have watched his hooked six off a malcolm marshal's perfect bouncer swinging in uncomfortably, missing which would have shattered his throat. Similarly, I still remember his lofted straight off Dermot reeve of England. It was a slow ball and after initiating the stroke, srikkanth had held up his bat in the air momentarily longer after realising that is was a slow ball with perfect wrist adjustment, brought down the bat a fraction of a second late to perfectly strike the ball. The beauty is, it was a premeditated stroke even before the ball was bowled during slog overs and yet he was able to make that necessary adjustment to execute the same stroke to the slower delivery. Even the legendary Imran khan had praised him saying that if he gets going, it is useless to make fielding adjustments and one has to hope that he will be out eventually on his own. Even in bowling, he is the first and only bowler from India to get 5 wicket haul twice in one day international career!!! So, he's got one better than sehwag on that aspect.

Here are the stats of the batsman you people call a LEGEND TESTS 43 RUNS 2062 AVG. 29.88 100s 2 50s 12 SIXES 19 ODIs 146 RUNS 4091 AVG. 29.01 100s 4 50s 27 These kind of stats doesn't label a batsman as LEGENDARY. He's got an average of 29.88 in Tests and you are calling him a LEGEND. Sehwag's got an average of 49 in Tests. Srikkanth has hit only 19 sixes as compared to Sehwag's 42 till date. And Srikkanth has "0" Test Wickets whereas Sehwag's got 14. A legens cannot have just 2 Test Centuries now, can he? Players like Viv Richards, Gavaskar, Gary Sobers, Kapil Dev, Zaheer Abbas, Steve Waugh, etc. are Legendary and putting Kris Srikkanth in the same league would be a crime.

Thanks ....yes it was srikkant who initiated big hitting in th initial overs when the pratice was to go for runs in the later overs. Who can forget the square driven four off Roberts in the world cup final...But no denying that sehwag is also a terrific player...whereas srikkant is a trend setter sehwag is one among many ..Gilcrist,jayasurya,etc etc

Sehwag is certainly better than Srikanth. Sehwag has a better Hand-Eye Co-ordination and is technically more sound than Srikanth was. Srikanth used to just swing his bat at everything. Even Sehwag does that but he connects more often than Srikanth used to.

If Srikanth's era was lethal in terms of pace bowling, Sehwag's era is lethal in terms of spin bowling. Skrikanth had to face the mighty West Indians and Aussie pacers and Sehwag has to face Glen Mcgrath, Lee, Pollock, Ntini, Akthar, Murali, Vaas, etc and also he had to face Warne and Wasim Akram before they hung up their boots. So I don't think that this bowling attack theory is relevant.

well i think both cannot be compared,,,,, just for the reason that they played at different times,,,, but by the way shewag is playing now i think srikanth was better as he had little bit of consistancy,,,,what do you say?
• India

yes srikanth was flamboyant and had that urge to score very fast where as shewag is showing to take pressure and i think that is why he is not performing, what are your views?

Nishanth, don't label srikkanth as an average batsman. He may not be a legend, although each member of world cup odi winning team have the right to be considered as legends. He was an unconventional batsman with extraordinary hand eye coordination and he was a better fielder than sehwag. He is the precursor to odi hard hitting concept. Maybe with powerplays, his record would have been even better.

We should not compare srikkanth with sewag because in those days they will play slowly. Now the trend is changed and every team will score runs quickly in the first 15 overs. Srikkanth is the best attacking opener in those days. Now, sewag is the best opener who score quick runs.

fOR ME I THINK IT IS HARD TO COMPARE BETWEEN SHRIKANTH AND VIRENDER SEHWAG BOTH HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS OPENING BATSMAN FOR INDIA But i think i would give virender sehwag a mark higher then shrikant just because he has made lots of records for India like scoring the first triple century and also sehwag has been a wicket taker and partnership breaker off late

I am not sure about Srikkant. I never saw him play. About Sehwag, he was a good hitter of the ball, on his day. But, now I am not sure. After all he is the one who got the only triple century for India. That requires a lot of temparement.

With due respect 2 Srikkant m keepin in mind the current form of sehwag, but still can safely say dat sehwag is better. his record proves that and dont forget he is the only indian batsman who has triple century against his name, a feat even sachin cant achieve in his entire career. so its sehwag only.

I think Shewag is a better batsman than Srikanth.Shewag scored two centuries in newzealand where every batsman in both the teams found it difficult to bat and failed on many occasions.I think even Srikanth would have failed on such pitches.Srikanth dint do well in Australian grounds but sehwag did.Shewag did many things that Srikanth dint.Infact Srikanth is a great fan of shewag.

I Hope both are a flicks of bad time of indian cricket...They have just got into the lime light becuase of their fast knocks ....after some time that to tagged as senior players both lost their talent and showed up as fit not to be cricketers... I think it's time for india to look towards young talents like uthappa...May gid bless the indian cricket team....

No doubt its SRIKANTH due to his consistency. But in case of Sehwag there is no guarantee on his performance. He just continue batting because he is not getting OUT. Till date he don't the technical aspect of Cricket.

i think sehwag is better than srikkanth as he has better footwork of the two and he is a better hitter of the two....

both of them had the same attacking kind of style of playing , i think u cant comapre both of them as the quality of bowling at Shrikanth time was way much better than sehwags time , the latter won the world cup and pl;ayed aginst some genuine fast bowling comprising imran khan, akram, holding, marshall ,bishop and evry one .

i think sehwag is better than srikanth , because has the so many records of hitting .he hd hitten 6 fours in a over. also he has the record of highest individual score in india in test matches ,he is also the striking batsman in india.

Its a matter of who's batting where ... Sehwag batting against all time bowling giants of those era would not have scored so many runs not these many centuries Similarly Srikkant could not bat in todays tactical field setting accompanied with batsmen analysed bowling attack... they both are crowd entertainers in real meaning ... could not be compared or rather should not be compared Srikkant could be considered as a trendsetter, as far as starting slog hitting in india is concerned
