Tattooed Fish ! What is your opinion of placing a tattoo on a fish

Seems one of latest things to hit pet stores is tattooed fish! The first link below is about fish imported from Singapore that have been tattooed with hearts, polka dots and such. The second link is a site about a tropical fish supplier in Hong Kong that will custom tattoo your fish with a slogan, company logo or anything you choose! What do you think of this practice? http://www.wgrz.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=44744 http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=850

Its right up there with live insect pins. Which I have seen are coming back in style. We must have some really bored people in the world. Why would I buy fish tatooed (dyed) with stripes or dots on them. I can buy them that way naturally. it is amazing what some people will do or buy. I can't blame it all on the sellers coming up with these ideas. They wouldn't even try if there weren't enough crazy people out there that would buy them.

Wouldn't it be easier to paint goofy slogans on the backs of turtles? Great now some goof is gonna read this and a lightbulb will go on. Sorry turtles.

I think that people are nuts. They are always doing something for a buck, and this beats them all.

I think that it is the biggest gimmick I have ever seen! I also have to wonder how they hold the fish still long enough to do it? Seems cruel to me too!

LOL... hey... if they can do hairstyles on dogs, die fur to match the outfits of the owner, etc. why not tattoo your fish? I think it's kind of neat. What a great marketing technique, in particular at a big expo where you're trying to get your company name out there! I'm sure there will be some animal rights activists that will be there immediately calling foul and inhumane treatment! LOL

How about igf they take a layer of your skin off in designs so that the scabs will leave amessage? That is basically what they do to "tatoode" fish. Not only does it cause injury to the fish but also can spred diseases to the fish that have lowered resistance to diseases. When the color the hair of dogs it does not comprize the health of the dogs if done properly.

LOL! That is cool! I like it. We had a big aquarium a 10 years before in our home, and I would have liked it in that time to have such special fishes.

I love to sit by an aquarium and watch the fish. I find it very relaxing. My grandmother had an aquarium!

LOL, what will they think of next? This is pretty crazy. I never thought about putting a tattoo on any animal, let alone a fish. Aren't fish pretty enough without tattoos? I mean, fish come in all shapes, sizes and colors, as it is. Surely a person could find one to suit their tastes without using money on adding a tattoo to the fish! LOL! That being sad, to each their own, if people have money to spend on something like that. I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as it is not harming or hurting the fish ^_^

Yes, fish are beautiful just as they are in my opinion. You bring up a valid point, I wonder if it does harm the fish in any way?

I can't imagine how you could tatto anything in water so...maybe they keep the fish out of water until it passes out, tattoo the poor little thing, slap it to wake it up and toss back into a tank.lol

I think this guy says it best: Bruce Friedrich, spokesman for PETA agrees, "Nothing says 'I love you' like cruelty to animals." It's not tattooed, it's dyed and the process is horrible for the fish to endure. It's in no way cool, and the dye doesn't last on the fish, the fish's life span is considerably shortened, and they're more prone to diseases. Do not buy these fish, it only encourages them to keep doing it. http://www.deathbydyeing.org/moreau.htm

That seems like animal cruelty to me! There is no reason to have a fish tattooed. I mean it isn't like they get up and walk out of their tank that you'd need them tattooed in case they got lost!

I think it's rediculous. I can imagine how much it costs and I'm sure it's quite enjoyable for the fish. How absurd why would you want to tattoo a fish. Next we'll have dogs getting their owners names tattood on them and a few piercings to boot.

i think that would hurt them since they're skin is thin. i think it's harmful and abuse to fish and should be stopped. it's like if i wanted to tattoo my cat someone would be sure to flip out. i wouldnt do that but it's the same type of thing.

Okay I just looked at the two sites. Let me just say that when I decided to quit smoking I was dumb enough to pay for this "low intensity" laser treatment done to parts of the ear. I felt every little pinch and it didn't even work. I quit on my own because I was so mad at myself for spending 93.00 on it. My point is that if I feel discomfort, imagine what a little fish gets with a low intensity laser. That's just wrong. Not to mention the slap some guys are going to get if they bring their sweethearts a tattooed fish for Valentine's Day.

IT is abuse- pure and simple. These people should be shot, and what will it teach kids that it is ok to mutilate animals. ANd just becasue it has a tattoo the will care for it better then a regular fish. I don't like tattoos on people and even less on fish..that have no say in what is done to them.

Oh far out! What will they think of next. I have heard of some strange things, but I think this tops it off. I wonder if those fish won't last as long. I actually feel sorry for them, they are pretty enough anyway.
