Wow! I never thought he would go back... David Lee Roth to reunite with Van Halen Updated Sat. Feb. 3 2007 8:54 AM ET Associated Press LOS ANGELES -- The rumors were true. Van Halen will reunite with original singer David Lee Roth for a summer tour of North America. "I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen," guitarist Eddie Van Halen said in a statement posted Friday on the band's Web site announcing a 40 city tour. No specific dates have been named. It will be the first time that Roth performs live with the band since 1984, when he was replaced by Sammy Hagar. A brief reunion with Roth in 1996 resulted in two new songs but no tour. Original bassist Michael Anthony will not be a part of the reunion. Late last year he was replaced by Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang. On March 12 Van Halen will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York.

When Sammy & VanHalen split, Sammy remained active, but remained active for only a short while after when Gary Sharone from Extreme joined them. After VanHalen went inactive, I heard that Mike Anthony joined Sammy Hagar, & could not become part of the reunion because of prior commitments. With Eddie's 15-year-old son being part of the band, that will give the young guy something big to put down on his resume, & will probably make it easier if he decides to start a band or be part of a band in the future. I'm sure he wasn't recruited just because he was Eddie's son. He would need to be a good musician in order for the reunion to succeed. So Mike Anthony's not being a part of the reunion may have given the younger VanHalen a much needed open door.

I hope it's a good tour, and not just one of these reunions that sound like a bunch of old rockers imitating themselves. To me VH was never VH without Roth; I loved his singing and showmanship. I hope they blow the roof off!

I just heard this evening that this tour has been cancelled indefinetely due to some contract not ever even being signed. I was driving home and my 3 year old wouldn't stop talking so I didn't get all the details, but the did say cancelled indefinetly at least 3 times. I'm really sorry! :(
